The Woodlands Home Building requirements
Home building and inspection in the master planned territory of The Woodlands is quite unique. Because of the desire to create a community that blends well with the environment, building home’s in The Woodlands requires one meet certain criteria. According to The Woodlands Development Philosophy, the community is still being developed “in harmony with the environment. Careful attention has been paid to ecology, with emphasis on preserving natural vegetation for future generations.” When planning your home or renovation the township desires as little interruption to the natural drainage patterns as possible.
In order to build a new home in The Woodlands, the latest adopted edition of the International Building Code must be followed. The Woodlands is currently operating under the 2006 International Residential Building Code.
Additionally, if you intend on making any home improvements there is a non-inclusive list of items that require an application and approval by the Covenant Administration Department. The list includes:
- Home and Garage Construction
- Attached structures (Patio covers, gazebos, and awnings)
- Roofing and Siding
- House painting
- and of course political signs
